The Mesmerizing Colors of Fall in Marin

This is the week! Get out and take in the breathtaking passionate colors before they disappear….

“Like other East Coast transplants, I often get nostalgic for the fall colors that embolden New England and the Tri-State area this time of year. During the 11 years I spent in San Francisco, it was hard to find trees that turned the signature hues that characterize autumn.

Luckily back then, the customary November zip up to Wine Country granted me a taste of the vibrant shades I craved even though they were mostly embedded in the leaves of the grapevines. But having moved to Marin 7 years ago, dotted amongst the various oaks, pines, bay laurel’s and other non-color changers as my East Coast friend likes to call them, I am able to get a taste for autumn once again.

Certainly, the trees here in Marin have their own fiery and passionate personalities. Every year, I fall in love with the bright yellow gingko leaves that carpet the ground below and the Japanese maples whose tender wispy leaves turn from deep red to orange. And even if there is a smaller concentration of autumn color out here in California, I have learned to appreciate the few brilliant ones that stand out in the sea of green.”
