Find the Perfect Gift in Fairfax

The Amazing Thing about Fairfax is that you won’t find a chain store. Nope, no Starbucks, no Home Depot, no Safeway, nada. We are lucky to live in Marin and super lucky to live in Fairfax. Yeah things are changing and it’s not same as it was ten or twenty years ago when Fairfax rents were reasonable and when the characters of Fairfax were more plentiful but truly, there is so much charm here topped with liberal politics, and people who care immensely about what’s grown locally whether food or art. And one of the things we love most about Fairfax are the vibrant streets in town that pulsate with live music, friendly faces and sweet places to shop.

For the myriad celebrations and momentous occasions that call for the perfect gift, Fairfax is the perfect place to get your needs met. In my eyes, a perfect present is unique, ethically or locally sourced or up cycled and made from a real live artist. In fairfax we are proud to say, there are several spots in which to find exactly what you want for woman, man, child or self that fit this description. Many of these spots listed below are nestled near one another either along Bolinas Ave or nearby right in town.

Herban Garden: A warm and inviting spot with handcrafted, ethically sourced, Fair Trade beautiful finds from all over the world including clothes, home decor, skincare, lovely essential oils and jewelry. There are also naturally crafted toys, art supplies and clothes for little ones.

Trouve: Local artisans sell their creations inside of this stunning treasure. It’s like a small museum in here with shadow box art, framed photos, paintings, jewelry, pillows, wood wick candles and many other unique finds for the discerning giftee are abound at Trouve.

Potting Shed: Real live succulents and plants, unique finds for the garden and home as well as jewelry and art grace the walls and shelves of this sweet indoor/outdoor spot along Bolinas Ave.

Revolution 9: funny, creative gifts for children, teens and adults who adore humor.

The Garage: Local artists who specialize in making clothes and good from recycled wares plant their items in their sections around this open space which once was, yes, a garage and gas station. Check out the trailer outside and various corners with inspired things.

Beach House: Reasonably priced clothing, and remade furniture such as adirondack chairs, signs and whimsical gifts that are perfectly shabby chic.

Good Earth: Seasonal finds, local artist cards, flowers, amazing chocolate, and of course the best food gifts are right here at GE.

And if you want to grab a bite (a good bite) after all that shopping, Taste Cafe, Hummingbird, Scoop and of course Good Earth serve up the goods right in town.

As a photographer, writer, psychotherapist and nature lover, I am passionate about living in Marin County, CA. The perfect home base, Fairfax, CA is where I get out daily on the miles and miles of open space and find inspiration and plot my next journey out of Marin into the world. More about Mary... Mary is a New York Native who has been living in Northern CA for the past 20 years. She is a "Creative Image Photographer" infusing digital images with innovative techniques. Her favorite spot to take photos is muddled amidst the trees of Marin County CA, or in an exotic urban environment near the ocean, under the sky, and completely in awe. Mary's goal is to capture this scenery, to reach into the mystery of life, into the everyday magic, use the light and the dark as guides, delve into the chaos or the quiet and capture and whittle away at these snapshots, without disrupting their original essence, until they come alive and rich with depth and mood. Her mission is to create unique works of art that bring this depth, mystery, upheaval or serenity to people's walls and homes and ultimately that her work becomes a catalyst to help shift onlookers mood and outlook even if for a moment in time. Her work has been described as dreamy, ethereal, mysterious and mythical and yet also simple and straightforward. Currently her photos are on display at Google Headquarters in California.
